Internship Opportunity

Genesee Libby is a photography studio specializing in the 19th c. wet-plate collodion process. Jenn Libby founded the business in 2014 to function as an art studio and to offer tintype and ambrotype portrait sessions in house and on-location. Libby has been practicing and teaching the wet-plate process for the past decade and continues to offer workshops. We are located in the North Winton neighborhood in Rochester, NY.

Genesee Libby Studio internships provide an opportunity to assist a working artist and be involved with the day-to-day operations of a start-up photography studio. Tasks may include darkroom work, cataloging, digital editing and printing, research, marketing, social media, web design, graphic design, and assisting with wet-plate shoots at the studio and on-location.

This is a great opportunity for students or recent graduates who are interested in learning this archaic process. Prospective interns who are interested in learning wet-plate must be willing to work responsibly with the chemicals used in the process. Interns are asked to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per week for 3 months. This is an unpaid internship but college credit can often be arranged.

Desirable skills include experience with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, Microsoft Word, Macintosh computers, and social media platforms. Background in art, photography, or graphic design is a plus. Traits preferred are attentiveness to detail, dedication, reliability, humanitarian ethics, curiosity, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor.

To apply, send a current resume and a cover letter stating background, interests, experience, availability, and two references to jenn@geneseelibby.com
